Tena nat (ጤና'ናት): Empowering Mothers in Ethiopia Through Healthcare Education

Tena nat(ጤና'ናት) is a non-profit organization founded by a group of physicians during their time in medical school. The inspiration for Tena nat came when one of the founders encountered a mother in Ethiopia who was continuing to exclusively breastfeed her 2-year-old toddler. The infant was severely malnourished. The mother was illiterate and lacked knowledge about proper healthcare and nutrition.

This heartbreaking experience sparked an idea for the founding physicians to create a platform to educate uneducated mothers and pregnant women about various aspects of healthcare, including nutrition. Living in a country like Ethiopia, the founders recognized that much of the population is uneducated, and there is a disproportionate number of healthcare workers compared to the population, resulting in low-quality health services. The majority of citizens do not have access to basic health education.

Tena nat ጤና'ናት) mission is to provide healthcare education to disadvantaged people through social media and in-person training, with the aim of reaching the rural population. By empowering mothers and pregnant women with essential healthcare knowledge, the organization hopes to improve the overall health and well-being of communities across Ethiopia.

Through this initiative, the founders of Tena nat(ጤና'ናት)aim to bridge the gap between the healthcare system and the underserved population, ensuring that all individuals have access to the information and resources they need to lead healthier lives. With a focus on reaching the country's most remote and marginalized communities, Tena nat(ጤና'ናት)is committed to creating a lasting impact on maternal and child health in Ethiopia.
